A designer and researcher who occupies the threshold between design, science, art and craft, Julia Lohmann uses her work to challenge attitudes around sustainability and materials.
She is currently Design Resident in the Department of Seaweed at the Victoria & Albert Museum and is also Professor for Design at the University of Fine Arts, Hamburg. Her art is exhibited across the world, including in collections such as the British Council in the UK and MoMA in New York.
Born in Germany, Lohmann did her undergraduate degree in Graphic Design at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design, before continuing her studies in Albertopolis, completing a MA in Design Products at the RCA. She is now pursuing an Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded PhD studentship at the Royal College of Art and Victoria & Albert Museum.
